We offer video therapy for these reasons!
Video therapy, also called telehealth, is a form of online therapy where you and your therapist meet over video from any location using your phone or computer. AND you still get Palo Alto Therapy’s fantastic, highly trained therapists support and guidance.
Video therapy provides convenience, comfort, and improves accessibility. If you find these benefits appealing, video therapy may be an excellent option. All you need is reliable internet access, a device with a camera such as a phone, computer, or tablet, and a private place to talk.
Video therapy can be beneficial for lots of clients, including those who really want the convenience, but still want our excellent therapy.
While video therapy is proven to be just as effective as in-person therapy, it may not be appropriate for all clients. Whether video therapy is right for you depends on your condition and the severity of your symptoms. We are happy to provide In-Person Therapy to those who prefer this option. We have therapists in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and San Jose.
Please call or text our Care Coordinators at 650-461-9026 to get started. Our therapists work on Saturdays and evenings and our administrative staff is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
If you decide to do video therapy, you will receive a secure link via email. You will receive this link well in advance of your appointment, and at the time of your appointment, you will click the link to join your session with your therapist. During your session, your therapist will maintain strict confidentiality standards for your protection.
Call us (650) 461-9026 or Text us (650) 461-9026 or book an appointment online for Video Teletherapy.
At Palo Alto Therapy, we help kids through adults overcome challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. Our compassionate, highly-trained therapists use evidence-based techniques to create meaningful, lasting results—often without long-term counseling.
For current clients, contact your therapist as you normally would to make an appointment. Your provider will send you an email link, which you can click to join in a virtual therapy session over Google Meet. You can use your phone, computer or tablet to participate and you do not need to download any software or subscribe to any service. You can talk to your provider as you normally would — it’s that easy!
For new clients, simply call our Care Coordinators at (650) 461-9026 — and they will get you all you need to get connected.
Absolutely. Our therapists maintain strict confidentiality standards for your protection.
Most healthcare plans provide coverage for telehealth just like in-office therapy. While Palo Alto Therapy is Out-of Network with most insurances, we are able to submit your claims to insurance electronically for you.
We appreciate that can be a tricky dynamic. Some of our clients meet for virtual sessions while on a walk, sitting in their car, or from their backyard. Often our therapists can adjust their schedules to connect with you during less busy times for your household — such as providing sessions on different days and earlier or later than usual. You can also try using headphones and if necessary — or, you can be on the screen but communicating with your therapist by the chat feature, in which you and your therapist can type back and forth.
Yes. There have been numerous studies conducted showing that telehealth is just as effective as in-person counseling.
The American Psychiatric Association(APA) published a physician reviewed article in 2017 that notes the following:
“There is substantial evidence of the effectiveness of telepsychiatry and research has found satisfaction to be high among patients, psychiatrists and other professionals. Telepsychiatry is equivalent to in-person care in diagnostic accuracy, treatment effectiveness, quality of care and patient satisfaction. Patient privacy and confidentiality are equivalent to in-person care.” https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/what-is-telepsychiatry
According to a 2016 article in the World Journal of Psychiatry:
“…telepsychiatry is comparable to face-to-face services in terms of reliability of clinical assessments and treatment outcomes . . . telepsychiatry performed as well as, if not better than face-to-face delivery of mental health services.” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4919267/
*Note when seeing the word Telepsychiatry, it is defined by the following –a subset of telemedicine, can involve providing a range of services including psychiatric evaluations, therapy (individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy), patient education and medication management. (APA, 2017)

I liked the emphasis on doing concrete things to get results-writing down negative thoughts, trying to say things to counter those thoughts…Thank you for helping me make my life better.
