Teaching others to respect your limits is a form of self care. 

Here are three tips that can help you enforce boundaries and maintain healthy relationships.

Set Your Limits

Never underestimate the power of your instincts and what they may be trying to tell you. 

If something doesn’t feel right to you, there’s likely a reason behind that feeling. 

There will always be little things in business and in life we don’t want to do, such as waking up early to hop on an important call or watching a show you’ve seen dozens of times with a friend because it’s their favorite.

Comprising on little things is part of life. 

It’s the big things that need our attention. If something doesn’t align with your values or makes you feel uncomfortable, it may be in your best interest to walk away. 

Strengthening your mind-body connection can better help you trust your instincts.

Voice Your Concerns

Getting others to understand you is all about good communication.

Here’s an example. Let’s say a good friend said something out of character that hurt your feelings. It’s very possible they were having a bad day and took their anger out on you. Or maybe their text message was read out of context. 

Either way, they may never know how you really feel unless you be honest and tell them. 

When in doubt, being direct is the best approach. 

Being straightforward and honest can actually strengthen relationships.

Practice Makes Progress

Being honest and letting people in can be very therapeutic.

Even if you start small, you are still taking the initiative to share your thoughts. Every small conversation opens the door for deeper conversations in the future.
