Staying Socially Connected While Social Distancing

Staying Socially Connected While Social Distancing

Therapy

We may not be able to spend time with the people we love face to face…

But with a little help from our friend technology, we can stay socially connected! Not sure where to begin? Keep on reading.

Schedule Regular Video Chats:

There are so many free video chatting options out there for us to take advantage of. Talking on the phone and texting are both wonderful things.

But actually being able to see someone’s face can help us feel closer to them. Unfortunately, group video calls are one of those things that can often get forgotten about.

We are much more likely to follow through with things that are written down and/or added to our schedule. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and schedule that group chat. Your future self will be glad you did.

Play Virtual Games:

Not all of us enjoy chatting on the phone, and that is completely okay. There are other ways you can connect with friends without hopping on a call. There are several websites and apps out there that let you play board games or card games with friends.

Playing online games is a great way to mix things up and have fun! Just don’t forget the snacks – no game night is complete without popcorn.

Participate In Forums:

If you miss going out and meeting new people, you are not alone!

Meeting new people right now may not be as easy as it used to be, but it is still possible.

Do some research and see if you could find an online book club or chat room to join. You never know what’s out there unless you look.

Embrace Social Media:

Social media is one of the easiest ways to stay in touch with friends and family. Not only can you have back and forth conversations, but you can also see what your friends and family are up to through their photos.

Final Thoughts:

Keep in mind, too much of anything is not healthy – screen time included.

You know yourself better than anyone.  Whenever you feel like you need a technology break, take one!

Your phone will still be there when you’re ready to use it again.
