Staying Resilient During Times of Change

Staying Resilient During Times of Change

Therapy

Any type of change can make you feel a little uncertain at first, but change is part of life.

After all, if everything in life stayed exactly the same, we wouldn’t be able to grow or learn. Exactly why resilience is such an important life skill. A simple change in mindset can turn a setback into a period of growth.

The next time you feel like the world is shifting underneath your feet, try these methods…

Call Out Your Feelings

Anger, confusion and anxiety are just a few emotions associated with the fear of the unknown.

The unknown can be quite scary since there isn’t much you can do to prepare for it.

Once you can recognize and name your feelings, you can come up with a plan on how to deal with them.  Understanding your emotions is the key to building that armor of resilience.

Feelings can undoubtedly be confusing at times – especially if we can’t name them. Untangling them one thread at a time can help put you at ease and see them as learning opportunities.

Practice Being Grateful

What made you feel happy today? What made you feel proud today? What pleasantly surprised you today?

Life transitions are not a black and white thing. Even if this change feels a little scary right now, go ahead and make a list of all the positives this change has to offer.

Remember, every situation has a silver lining. Just because you don’t see it right now doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

Gratitude is a great life tool to have under your belt. The next time you experience an overwhelming change, gratitude can help keep you focused on the positive moments.
