Feedback Informed Treatment in Palo Alto

Good therapy should feel like it’s working.

Feedback Informed Treatment — also known as FIT — is an approach that keeps your experience at the center of the process, using regular check-ins to make sure every session is actually moving you forward.

Feedback Informed Treatment at Palo Alto Therapy can help with:

Your therapist knows what is working and what isn’t — every session
Treatment is continuously adjusted to fit your needs and goals
You feel heard, respected, and genuinely involved in your own care
Progress is tracked so improvement is visible, not just assumed
The relationship between you and your therapist stays strong and effective

What Is Feeback Informed Treatment?

Feedback Informed Treatment is a research-backed practice in which clients are invited to provide structured feedback at the beginning and end of each therapy session. Using brief, validated measures, you share how you’ve been feeling during the week and how you experienced the session itself — whether the work felt relevant, whether you felt understood, and whether things are moving in the right direction.

At Palo Alto Therapy, FIT is woven into every session in a way that feels natural rather than clinical. At the start of each appointment, you complete a brief check-in — typically just a few questions — that gives your therapist a snapshot of how your week has gone and how you’ve been feeling overall. At the end of the session, you share a short rating of how the session felt, whether the work seemed relevant to what you’re dealing with, and whether you felt comfortable and understood.

At Palo Alto Therapy, CBT is never a one-size-fits-all protocol. Our therapists tailor the approach to each client’s age, and goals, and when needed we can draw on other treatment options like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, Trauma-Focused CBT for PTSD, and mindfulness-integrated approaches for stress and burnout. The goal is always the same: real tools, real change, and skills that keep working long after therapy ends.
